Why Wonder Matters More Than Ever

When did we become so busy that we stopped noticing the wonders around us?

Children don’t have that problem.

They’ll stop to watch a butterfly, study a snail, ask why birds sing, or marvel at the clouds. They’re naturally curious because God created them that way.

Somewhere along the journey into adulthood, many of us trade curiosity for schedules, wonder for productivity, and exploration for efficiency.

Yet throughout Scripture, God continually points us toward His creation. Birds, flowers, trees, rivers, and oceans all reveal something about their Creator.

That’s one of the reasons I wrote Manatee School.

Yes, it’s a story about gentle manatees. But it’s also an invitation for families to slow down, explore together, ask questions, laugh, and rediscover the joy of wonder.

One of my favorite relationships in the story is between Grandpa and Emily. Grandpa doesn’t rush Emily through their adventure. He walks beside her, encourages her curiosity, and lets discovery become the lesson. I think every child deserves someone who is willing to pause, listen, and explore the world with them.

Recently I introduced readers to Sherilyn the Manatee. Sherilyn is a little shy, and that’s exactly what makes her so special. She reminds us that you don’t have to be the loudest voice to have a beautiful purpose. I hope every child finds a character in Manatee School who helps them feel seen and valued.

Meet Sherilyn here.

My prayer is that this book becomes more than a story to read. I hope it becomes a reason for families to spend time together, discover God’s incredible creation, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Because children protect what they love.

And they love what they’ve had the opportunity to discover.

As August 4 draws near, I hope you’ll join us on this adventure. Read the story, then close the book and head outside. You never know what wonder God has waiting just beyond your front door.

A Family Adventure Challenge

This week, choose one simple adventure together. Take a walk, visit a park, watch birds, or sit beside the water. Then ask one question:

“What did we discover today that reminded us of our amazing Creator?”

Sometimes the greatest adventures begin with a single question.

I can’t wait to welcome you to Manatee School on August 4.
