I started blogging in 2016 as a way of sharing my poetry. Since then I’ve realized writers, like artists, are constantly developing and pursuing new interests. Currently I write children’s fiction. I am represented by Michelle S. Lazurek of WordWise Media.
My first book, Buddy the Beagle on Blueberry Street, was released by Elk Lake in 2019. Buddy is a mischievous little beagle who experiences a serious accident. His journey to recovery encourages children to never give up. The book is an early reader chapter book for children ages six to nine.
My second book, Return to Blueberry Street was inspired by a camping trip we took to Silver Springs State Park, Florida. Did you know hundreds of Rhesus monkeys live in the wild at Silver Springs? That trip birthed a fiction story of what might happen if a monkey came to Blueberry Street.
If you are an aspiring writer, I suggest you connect with a local writing group. As a member of Wordweavers International, I’ve honed my writing skills through critique group discussions. Writing conferences offer valuable insight and tips for writers of all genres. At conferences attendees have the opportunity to present their work to editors and agents and receive feedback. I highly recommend the Florida Christian Writers Conference where I have made invaluable contacts who furthered my progress as a writer.
My writing journey began during the summer of 2013. That’s when I retired from teaching and read The Creative Call by Janice Elsheimer. Her book inspired me to express myself through poetry. Since then several of my poems have appeared in Time of Singing, a journal of Christian poetry. In 2016 I launched into writing for children with a nonfiction article, Counting Manatees, Clubhouse Jr. Magazine . Recently my poem “Heavenly Melodies” was published in the October 2018 issue of Refresh Bible Study Magazine. In 2020 my poem Front Porch Friendship won first place in the Words and Wonders Poetry Contest sponsored by the city of Orlando.
I invite you to subscribe to my blog. You will be notified through email whenever I add new content. I often share my inspiration for writing. I love to hike, camp, and relax in nature. I’ve written many posts about camping in Florida State Parks with my husband, Herb, and our sweet beagle, Buddy. Join us as we explore the “real Florida.” When you visit leave a comment about your outdoor experiences. I’m always interested in visiting new places.
